So a trend I’ve been noticing for quite some time came into sharp focus yesterday when the new Carnival room service menu I posted received over 10,000 hits to my blog and roughly a billion shares within the first hour versus single digits for many of the insightful and witty (according to my #1 fan who just happens to be my mom) guides and reviews I spend days and days (and days) working on. So while I really enjoy writing, especially when I’m sharing my cruise experiences, some days it’s just best to give the people what they want (especially after spending most of yesterday and the night before at the ER and dentist with my son who suffered a basketball injury). And what do the people want? The updated (as of a few months ago – including special 50th Anniversary items) 5 day Carnival dinner menus (I’ve had lots of people request these). So without further subjecting you to my penchant for wordiness and a lifelong regret at not pursuing a degree in creative writing, here are the menus with only one important bit of additional commentary.

One Important Bit of Additional Commentary

“Well, Prince, so Genoa and Lucca are now just family estates of the Buonapartes. But I warn you, if you don’t tell me that this means war, if you still try to defend the infamies and horrors perpetrated by that Antichrist—I really believe he is Antichrist—I will have nothing more to do with you and you are no longer my friend, no longer my ‘faithful slave,’ as you call yourself! But how do you do? I see I have frightened you—sit down and tell me all the news.”

Haha, just kidding. That was the first paragraph of War and Peace. What I really wanted to do was provide a brief disclaimer. While these will almost certainly be your menus, and likely in this order if you’re booked on a 5 night Carnival Cruise, each ship’s Maître d’ makes the final decision as to the order of the menus. So if you’re using these for planning specialty dining nights, I would strongly suggest stopping by the main dining room on embarkation day to verify the order with the Maître d’. So with that…

It was in July, 1805, and the speaker was the well-known Anna Pávlovna Schérer, maid of honor and favorite of the Empress Márya Fëdorovna. With these words she greeted Prince Vasíli Kurágin, a man of high rank and importance, who was the first to arrive at her reception. Anna Pávlovna had had a cough for some days. She was, as she said, suffering from la grippe; grippe being then a new word in St. Petersburg, used only by the elite.

Haha, that was the second paragraph of War and Peace. Here are the menus…

Carnival’s 5 Day Dinner Menus

Note that there is NO COMPLIMENTARY LOBSTER offered on 5 night sailings. If you’d like lobster, you’ll need to order it from the “Steakhouse Selections” section and pay $23 extra.

And with that…

All her invitations without exception, written in French, and delivered by a scarlet-liveried footman that morning, ran as follows: “If you have nothing better to do, Count (or Prince), and if the prospect of spending an evening with a poor invalid is not too terrible, I shall be very charmed to see you tonight between 7 and 10—Annette Schérer.” (Haha, paragraph 3, War and Peace)

Fine, class dismissed!

Homework (10 points): Read my recent review of the Carnival Spirit. Wait, who am I kidding? Save yourself some time and finish reading War and Peace. Or just check out Carnival’s Bar Menus and Drink Prices.
