Blogging tips

Breaking News: Profcruise.com Reaches 1,000,000 Views!

Something happened today, more shocking than Will Smith hitting Chris Rock at the Oscars last night. Profcruise.com reached 1,000,000 views!

This is significant for two reasons:

1. It proves that ANYONE can start a cruise blog.

Even someone who initially thought the following about basic terms related to blogging:

Domain: The place I would be the master of if my husband and son didn’t live there.  As it stands I have to hide all my treats and fake digestive issues to get some time to myself on the throne.

Web host: Charlotte.

Plugin: The heated oil filled scent disperser offering up to 50 days of “fresh linen” my husband uses to mask the smell of my sweaty gym clothes.

Widgets: A fictional race of people from a L. Frank Baum children’s novel.

HTML: A word my son spelled phonetically on an assignment for Kindergarten that I tried desperately to figure out before finally giving up and gently inquiring, “what does this say, buddy?”  “Hot metal.” “Ooooooh.”

SEO: What I assume is a typo and appreciate as an opportunity to feed my ego, “I think you mean CEO?”

Affiliate links: A trendy new vegetarian sausage substitute (soy free!).

2. It dispels the claim that no one reads anymore.

I’m frequently asked why I don’t vlog, followed by a statement something to the effect of, “cruise blogs are obsolete – no one reads anymore!” My typical response is to shrug and answer with, “I have a face for radio and a voice for newspaper.”

Let’s Celebrate!

However, even those of us who’s appearance would suggest we are completely immune to social expectations, occasionally give in to peer pressure and the fagility of ego. So, I’d actually planned to go live on YouTube like all the famous Vloggers do when they hit a significant milestone, to celebrate and offer my thanks.

But then I realized that I only have a pitiful 126 YouTube subscribers, and one needs a minimum of 1,000 to go live and I had to go take some Tums to prevent flashbacks of sitting alone at lunch in high school from bubbling up. I was secretly relieved though. Still, if enough of you head over to my YouTube channel and subscribe, I promise to go live when I hit 10,000,000 (in other words, never).

Of course the only real way to celebrate is…with a cruise, of course! So I’ll be embarking on the Carnival Panorama in less than two weeks to do just that (I’m just going to pretend like all the deck parties are in honor of me).

Thank you!

Anyway, here we are at 1,000,000 views, three years after I plunged head first into cruise blogging without donning a life jacket or reporting to my muster station for further instructions and assistance. I use “we” with intention, because profcruise.com would be nothing without you and I’d be stuck working a real job with a boss who isn’t sympathetic to my cruising needs, “Do you have a doctor’s note supporting your claim that monthly cruises are essential to your mental health and productivity?”

Seriously though, thank you! Thank you for reading and sharing my posts and pretending to laugh at my jokes, so bad that when I hit the button on the laugh track it pretends to have dead batteries. And even more than that, thank you for sharing your own cruise stories and knowledge with ME. I’ve learned so much from my readers, from all over the world and different in many ways, but with a common passion: cruising! You make me laugh, fill me with joy, and keep me honest (even calling me out sometimes when I’m wrong or step over the line from funny to offensive).

My sincere wish is that one day I’ll find myself on a cruise with each and every one of you, so I can thank you in person and buy you a drink (as long we we both have the drink package and it’s free).

And with that…

Class Dismissed.

Homework: There’s no homework on party days at school! However, if you’re interested in starting your own cruise blog and want to learn more about how I did it, you can read: Secrets of a Full-Time Cruise Blogger.
